What You Control and What You Don’t
Acceptance, Awareness, and Action determine how your maneuver your circumstances.
Today I want to talk about taking responsibility. Not blaming, but asking “What is my part?” Not remembering previous limits, but asking “I wonder if I can do that?” Not complaining, but asking “If this is important, how can I make this happen?”
There are a lot of unknowns and uncertains and unwanteds (the last two are made up words — but I don’t care). These can all be summarized as “circumstances. It’s life's circumstances that we do not have control over. But Acceptance, Awareness, and Action are the three things that you have absolute control over and will determine how you maneuver your circumstances.
Acceptance. Recognize how things are in the moment. What is the situation? Not what you want the situation to be or how it should be, but what is the reality of the situation.
Awareness. What are you paying attention to? Do you see all the negatives or do you seesome positives? Are you focused on what can change or stuck thinking about what can’t change? Its not about having a positive mindset, its about remembering to look for more than just the obvious. Especially if the obvious doesn’t allow for progress.
Action. There is not much wiggle room on this definition. What can you do? DO IT. Can you do a little more? DO IT. If you fail at something, accept that it happened, be aware of what needs to change, and take a NEW ACTION!
